As with many places, Biri was not always a city of its own. Biri began as a barrio of Bobon in Northern Samar in 1649.
It began life anew as its own municipality in 1970.
Historically islanders have established trade relationships with Southern Luzon to the North. Over the last few years however,
a sort of gentle growth has begun. More and more international travelers are choosing Biri as a holiday destination away from
the crowds and party atmosphere.
Local tourism has been on the increase as well as various Philippine celebrities choose to build vacation and resort homes on
the island. This has sparked the growth of a small but healthy tourism industry helping bring more growth to the island.
